Suddenly have tons of time to organize your sewing room?…me too. While its been quite difficult to see many silver linings in this current pandemic, one blessing of Covid-19 has been getting to spend a significantly larger amount of time with my family, in my house. The quality time with my family has been wonderful, while my quality time with my house has spurred on quite a few cleaning and organizing projects. Nothing like staring at one’s disorganization for extended periods of time to encourage spring cleaning.
I recently tackled my sewing room. As I normally spend every moment I have for available for sewing, actually sewing, it had become quite a disorganized mess. I moved my tables around, repositioned my ironing board, actually vacuumed, and organized all of my sewing notions.
Several weeks ago I did a post on various types of notion organizers I saw while attending a class at Children’s Corner Store. One of the companies I posted about, BlueFig reached out to me to sample some of their products. I have been so impressed.
Their bags are made with Coated, Poly-Cavas fabric which has proved to be extremely durable (helpful when they’re constantly holding pointy, sharp things). They’re also extremely well thought out. These are bags specifically for sewists by sewists. I’ve been using this satchel as a hand sewing bag and it has the best compartments for all of my hand sewing needs. This company clearly spends a lot of time doing its research and development with people who actually sew. While I could rave about each one I’ve tried, today I’ll be focusing on their Notions Bag.
I have been incredibly pleased with this little bag. At twenty inches wide by twelve inches tall (when its open) it is the perfect size for all of my notions. In the past, I just threw my notions into a three tiered shelf and dug through it every time I needed to find something. This bag has made it so much easier to find every item far more quickly.
The pockets are my favorite part. The clear plastic is thick and strong, each pocket zips shut and there are a variety of sizes. Some pockets are perfect for rulers, some for scissors, and some are perfect for pattern weights.
Another impressive feature of this bag is that you can purchase additional pocket inserts and place them on the velcro strip you can see down the center of the bag above. If you happen to have an abundance of notions or if you like to keep your notions very separate, purchasing an additional insert is a great idea.
Speaking of purchasing, the price point of this bag is spot on. It is only $27.95 on Amazon and $23.00 on their website. It also comes as part of a larger kit, that includes a wheeled sewing machine tote, project tote, and the notions bag. It’s a steal at $142.00 and would be incredibly helpful if you take classes frequently.
These bags are designed and made in the USA. The quality and thought put into each piece is impressive. If you’re looking for a way to shop small during this uncertain time, shopping with BlueFig is a fantastic option.
In other news, I can’t tell you all how grateful I am to have this blog and sewing community during this particular time. Having others to reach out to on social media, through this blog and on the phone has been so helpful. Some of my friends from this blog have even sent my children letters. Getting to go outside and check the mailbox is one of their favorite activities these days, so you can imagine their glee when they get letters addressed specifically to them. Other readers of this blog are sending me ideas for activities to do with the kiddos (keep ’em coming! they’ve been so helpful!) While many readers are making thousands of masks for healthcare providers and those at risk watching that on Instagram and Facebook has been incredibly inspirational. The sewing world is such a cool community. Thanks for being awesome 🙂
