Green Swiss Dot Sibling Set

Some time ago (back in January to be specific) I ran across this adorable set on my instagram feed. Thanks for the inspiration, @thefrillyfrog. I love swiss dot and I love sibling sets, so this pair called to me. There are however, elements of it that I’m not crazy about, making it a perfect candidate to replicate with my own spin.

To create the bubble, I used Creations by Michie 115. She doesn’t sell any of her patterns “hard copy” anymore but you can find them on her Etsy shop in downloadable form. I piped the white cotton pique collar in the same green Cotton Swiss dot fabric I used to make the bubble. I do not know how to do fagoting yet, so I opted for piping instead.

This particular green swiss dot seems to be out of stock at the moment, but there is one similar here. I made no modifications to Michie bubble, the pattern was exactly what I wanted.

To create the dress, I used Children’s Corner Pattern’s Victoria as the base. I shortened the bodice of the dress to eliminate the darts. Their blog post helped with that, you can find it here. The angel-sleeves are from an out-of-print pattern (Children’s Corner Hilary). I had to modify them fairly significantly to get them to look the way I wanted. One could also use the Children’s Corner Harper. It has an angel sleeve pattern that would likely not need modification.

There are a couple differences between my dress and the inspiration garment. The inspiration garment does not have lace…. I’m currently having issues not adding trim to everything, so I added a ruffle neckline and matching trim at the edge of my angel sleeves. As an added bonus, the pop of white seemed to help tie to two garments together. I purchased the trim at Textiles in Nashville (they do not have a website from which one can order). Here is some that’s similar.

Another difference between my garment and the inspiration garment is that the ready-to-wear option has large bows on it. If you’ve met my daughter, you know she is just not a large bow kind of girl, so I left those off. My future, ironing, self will thank me.

There ya have it! Another short and sweet blog post with lots of pictures of two short and sweet kiddos.
